Summer of Pride in Southwark

18 June 2024

Southwark Council has announced the successful applicants of its first ever Summer of Pride Fund.

Thirty-five local organisations applied for the new Summer of Pride funding pot, launched in February this year to support events and activities that celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer identity, culture, histories and rights.

Of these, 19 were successful and were awarded grants towards their activities between £550 and £2,500. The events that got the funding are taking place over June, Pride month, but also into July and August, creating a summer of Pride celebrations in Southwark.

Cllr Stephanie Cryan, cabinet member for equalities, democracy and finance, said: “We are thrilled that so many local groups applied for funding in our first year of the Pride Fund and I only wish we were able to fund everything.

“However, please be assured this will now be a regular part of our funding programme and I encourage our local LGBT+ community to please keep reaching out to use so we can do what we can to support you.”

Details of the successful events, and other Pride activities, are on the council’s Southwark Presents what’s on pages at www.southwark.gov.uk/pride24-events

Anyone holding an event this year can promote it for free on the council’s website, just go to www.southwark.gov.uk/southwarkpresents and click on the ‘Add Your Event’ link. Make sure you mark up that it is a Pride event.
