Appointing an archaeologist
The archaeology of Southwark is complex. Use a specialist archaeologist to assist with a planning application.
The Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Registered Organisation scheme may help you to appoint an archaeologist.
When choosing an archaeologist, find someone who:
- is based and works in London
- has evidence that they employ staff who work predominantly on London's archaeology
- can give you details of at least 3 completed projects in Southwark or similar sites in Greater London (you can also check these on the Planning Register).
If the archaeologist is new to working in Southwark, email designconservation@southwark.gov.uk and ask our archaeologist to approve their site recording systems.
