Healthy eating for children

Help is available in Southwark for families to eat healthily. 

Your GP can refer you to Southwark’s nutrition and dietetics service. They support families of children with a range of weight and eating conditions.

The following resources can help you with:

  • ways to get kids to eat more healthy foods

  • where to get more help for you and your family if you need it

Healthy Start is a national scheme which provides money for milk, fruit and vegetables to families with children under 4 who get certain benefits.

Change4Life has lots of ideas for eating well and getting more exercise for families.

Children from 4 to 17

Alive ‘N’ Kicking is a free 12-week course for children from 4 to 17 who are overweight or obese. It helps families in Southwark make small, easy changes to improve their health and wellbeing with exercise and healthy eating.

Children, young people and adults with special educational needs

Find out about health services available under Southwark’s Local Offer including:

  • mental and emotional wellbeing
  • emergency care
  • long-term conditions 
  • support to live a healthier lifestyle
