Report a planning breach

Report a breach of planning control

We do not investigate anonymous complaints: always provide your name, address and contact details. We will use your information according to our data protection policy.

Before reporting a planning breach:

  • check Planning Register to see if planning permission has been granted
  • where permission has been given, study the drawings on Planning Register and report any irregularities
  • check our planning section for general planning advice
  • detail the unauthorised development and its impact

We'll acknowledge your complaint in writing. A case officer will be appointed and we'll let you know how long their investigation will take.

You're welcome to contact us at any time to get an update. But case officers will only inform you of any key decision or actions taken on a case.

If you've had a complaint made against you or your property, a case officer might visit you. If you have breached a planning permission, we will negotiate a solution. If you break the law and are uncooperative, you risk prosecution.
