Food hygiene inspections

During an inspection of your business, you have the right to:

• ask for written explanations and deadlines for any issues raised and whether it’s a legal requirement or a recommendation of good practice
• a written explanation of why any immediate enforcement actions are taken
• have your views heard if enforcement action is taken/proposed and discuss any equally effective alternative action
• be told how to appeal any enforcement action
• a receipt if anything is taken from your business during the inspection
• test any items yourself if they are taken away to be tested

Ask the inspecting officer what will happen next if you're concerned about the possible impact on your business.
