Container licence
You will need a licence to place a container on the public highway.
You'll need a licence to put a container for construction works on the public highway.
Whenever possible, store containers on your own private land to avoid having to apply for a licence.
We may turn down applications if the proposed site is not suitable.
Before you start
Before starting the application, make sure you have:
- a copy of your company's public liability insurance
- company bank details, VAT number and company number on letter headed paper
- all relevant site plans or diagrams, including traffic order pedestrian management plans
- confirmation of any road closures, parking bay suspensions and planning permissions applied for (if applicable)
Apply for a licence
To apply:
Download the container licence application form
Send your completed application to the address on the form.
You must apply for the licence at least 15 working days before works are due to start.
Licences last 4 weeks. To extend one, you must reapply 14 days before the current licence expiry date.
Fees
The cost of a container licence is £386 per month.
Conditions
We'll inspect your site on a regular basis. Your licensed activity must meet our terms and conditions. The terms and conditions must be agreed upon during your application.
