What you’ll get paid

We provide an allowance and a ‘setting up’ grant to help prepare the foster child’s bedroom.

Our allowance is linked to training and experience. So the more training you do to increase your skills and ability to care for the different needs of children, the higher your allowance will be.

You get a weekly:

  • allowance for each child that you care for

  • fee that's paid depending on your training and experience as a foster carer

You'll start as a level 2 carer if both of the following apply. You:

  • are transferring from another agency

  • have completed your training, support and development (TDS) standards for foster care course

We also offer allowances for birthdays, holidays, festivities and technology equipment, plus contributions to school uniforms.

You can also claim for 100% off your Council Tax as a foster carer if you live in Southwark.
