Report a child at risk

Find out how to report a safety concern about a child or young person (safeguarding).

Consent before referring

We may not be able to offer help to families if they do not want support from us.

Before making a referral to MASH, you should try to get consent (permission) from the parents or carers of the child. However, do not do this if it would place the child or young person at more risk of harm.

You can make a referral without consent if you have a good reason and if it will help to safeguard the child or young person sooner.

We may share information with other professionals like schools and health visitors to further support children and their families.  Wherever possible, we will seek the permission of parents / carers to before doing so.

You do not have to get consent if it would put the child more at risk.
