Using the archives searchroom

Searchroom rules

Before you can access and view records and archival material, you must:

  • wash and dry your hands thoroughly
  • check in with the staff member on duty
  • fill in and return the sign-in sheet, which confirms you’ll follow the rules

When using the searchroom, you must:

  • follow staff guidance on how to handle materials
  • use only a pencil to make notes
  • ask staff before taking photos or making copies
  • leave materials on the desk when you have finished using them
  • use our public computers for accessing family or local history resources only, (there are computers in Southwark libraries for general use)
  • keep all food and drink containers sealed and away from documents

If you have any questions, ask a member of staff.
