Find out how to use the searchroom and handle documents so they are kept safe for other users.

Ordering and viewing documents

If you want to view a document, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in.

  2. Note down the reference numbers of items you want to see. Staff can help you find these. We have various catalogues and indexes on site to help you.

  3. After you’ve found items you want to view, fill in a document request slip for each one and hand it to a member of staff. For on-site documents, we aim to get it on the same day. Off-site documents may require a new appointment. For large orders, we may be able to provide some of it, and add more later. 

  4. Staff will guide you to your seat and bring the requested documents. If you’re a first-time visitor or need extra help, they will give you an introduction to our services.

  5. Ask staff for help with opening, moving or understanding documents.
