Since 2012 we've repossessed over 1,700 properties because of some form of tenancy fraud.
We check all applications for housing, assignment, succession, mutual exchange and Right to Buy, to make sure they're legitimate.
This can include credit reference agency checks to verify identity and residency.
Home visits
We carry out a home visit and tenancy audit on all tenancies.
We check the property is occupied in accordance with the tenancy agreement.
Data matching
We take part in data matching to combat tenancy fraud and other fraud against the Council.
