Extend your lease

Overview

We aim to respond to applications within 10 working days. It may take longer during busier periods. Be assured that we are processing them and will respond as soon as possible.

The Leasehold Reform allows eligible leaseholders to extend their lease by 90 years.

For example, if you have a 100 years left on your lease and qualified for an extension, you would add on 90 years. You would then own a 190-year lease.

There are 2 potential ways to apply for a lease extension:

  • the statutory route (if you meet certain criteria)
  • the voluntary route

If the council only has a leasehold interest in your building (not the freehold), we'll need consent from your freeholder.

We recommend you take professional advice before extending your lease. You can find out more from the Leasehold Advisory Service.
