Power cuts and electrical safety

Keep your electrical appliances safe by:

• unplugging appliances that have a burning smell, look damaged or show exposed wires - do not use them
• taking plugs out of any damaged sockets 
• taking care with light bulbs and tubes, as these can get hot while switched on
• not plugging too many devices or appliances into a single socket - this can cause overheating and fires
• not using sockets near to a leak or water/liquid spill - turn off the circuit at the fuse box
• not using electrical items near water, for example, don't keep flowers near your TV
• keeping your toaster clean and away from curtains
