Cycling improvement projects
We're working on schemes to make cycling safer in Rye Lane, Peckham and in Bermondsey. Give us your views.
Rotherhithe to Peckham cycle route
This route is part of a wider plan from Transport for London to install 24 new cycle routes across London.
The aims of this plan are to:
- improve cycle safety in London and reduce on-street collisions
- improve street design for those walking, cycling and wheeling
- connect up existing routes
Scheme background
The Rotherhithe to Peckham cycle route was originally proposed as one of several connecting to the pedestrian and cycle bridge crossing the Thames from Rotherhithe to the Docklands.
The plans for the bridge were put on hold in 2019 due to a lack of funding, but the cycle route is going ahead. We received permission to proceed with the scheme in 2022.
Consultation
Between 3 April and 28 May 2023 we held a public consultation. We asked residents to comment on the outline designs.
Out of 459 people commenting on the whole route:
- 80% said they would cycle more if infrastructure was improved
- 84% agreed with the proposal for cycle improvements in the area
