Housing facts and figures
This guide contains headline data tables and information on housing delivery from 2022 to 2024.
Permissions and delivery of self-contained homes
A self-contained home is a home that has all the necessities (bedroom, living, cooking and washing facilities) behind its own lockable front door.
Financial year (1 April to 31 March) | Net approved self contained homes | Net completed self contained homes | Mayor of London's annual housing target (year of London Plan version) |
2022/2023 | 2,282 | 1,475 | 2355 (2021) |
2023/2024 | 2,299 | 1,728 | 2355 (2021) |
Since the publishing of the Southwark Plan in 2022, some major schemes contributed to a significant number of new self-contained homes. The following schemes involved the approval of a high number of new homes:
Year | Scheme | Homes approved |
2022/23 | Redevelopment of Tustin Estate | 690 |
2022/23 | Redevelopment of the Ledbury Estate | 340 |
2022/23 | Reserved Matters Planning Applications for the Canada Water Redevelopment | 794 |
2022/23 | Southernwood Retail Park | 724 |
Housing approvals count the number of homes approved through the planning process. However, this does not mean they will be built.
A separate set of completion data is provided to show the number of homes built each year.
Approval and completion data should not be compared as they may relate to different schemes. The delivery of the approved schemes does not come forward at the same rate as completions.
