Report a pest problem

How to report a pest problem. What to do if you find pests in a park or on private land.

Book an appointment with our pest control service if it's a pest we can treat

We'll email you back with a booking confirmation if we can help.

If you're a council tenant this service is free for most common pests. Other residents may need to pay.

How you report depends on where the pest is.

You can find out how we use the personal information we ask for on our forms.

I live in a council property

I live in a private rented property

If you find a pest and you live in private, rented accommodation, you can ask your landlord to help.

Alternatively you can report a pest problem and pay for it if it does not break your tenancy agreement.

Your landlord may be responsible for dealing with pests, including:

  • cockroaches
  • mice
  • rats
  • pharaoh ants (or other tropical ants)
  • pigeons (only if the nest is causing problems with mess, smells, flies or other insects)
  • wasps (only if the nest is causing a problem for example, blocking an air vent or gas appliance vent)

If your landlord does not respond to your requests, contact our housing enforcement team. Email resi@southwark.gov.uk. They will:

  • contact you within 3 working days to book an appointment
  • inspect the property at a convenient time (not including weekends and bank holidays)
  • let your landlord know - this is called ‘serving a notice’ and tells them to treat the problem if necessary, or advise you

Report mice or rats seen in a Southwark park

Our form asks where you saw them. Choose ‘in a public space’.

Report mice or rats seen on private outdoor land

If rats and mice are causing a problem on privately owned land we can serve the landowner with a notice.

It tells the owner that they must treat the land to get rid of the pest.

Examples of privately owned land include:

  • an overgrown garden
  • a building site

We may not be able to help with the following:

  • land which is not registered at the Land Registry (unregistered land)
  • inert material like building rubble

We may charge a fee to serve a notice.
