Assistive technology
Technology is continuously advancing and has become part of day to day life.
Telecare refers to a range of tech-based healthcare devices, like alarms and sensors, that help keep you safe at home. They can contact help if you need it.
It can support those with a wide range of health and social care needs.
You can get monitored or stand alone devices.
Monitored devices
These are linked to and alert a 24 hour monitoring centre. Trained staff will act on the alert according to your need.
For example, your family or friends may be contacted or you could get a visit from a council officer, or emergency services.
You may have to contribute towards the cost of a monitored device. How much depends on the outcome of your financial assessment.
The maximum cost would be £5.75 a week.
Standalone devices
These are for those who:
- can react to an alert themselves
- or have someone with them who can receive and follow up on an alert
For example, alerts reminding you to take your medication.
Standalone devices are free.
