Mobility aids
Walking equipment
If your walking stick or frame is broken, call the falls service on 020 3049 5424.
Local chemists or disability shops can provide replacement rubber feet on a walking stick or frame (also called a ferrule).
Get a wheelchair
Your GP can refer you to the wheelchair service based in the Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre.
If you don't have a GP, call 020 3049 7760 for advice.
Powered mobility equipment
If you’re disabled and get certain income benefits, the Motability Scheme may be able to help you get a new car, powered wheelchair or scooter.
The Queen Elizabeth Foundation can assess your needs. You can try scooters and other powered mobility equipment. There is a charge for the assessment.
Before buying a scooter or powered equipment think about:
- insurance
- where you'll store it
- how you'll charge the battery
- maintenance and service costs
Make sure you do not put people's safety at risk.
Living Made Easy has more information about mobility services, wheelchairs and scooters.
