You can apply for a major variation to your existing premises licence if you:

  • plan major structural alterations to your premises
  • want to change your hours of operation
  • want to change the types of licensable activities

Advertising the licence application

You must publicly advertise at the premises and in a local newspaper. You must say that you’ve applied to make major changes to your premises licence. 

Advertising on the premises

You must display a notice of your application to change your premises licence on the premises. It must be displayed for 28 days. This starts on the day after the application is made.

The notice must be:

  • printed on A3 blue paper and laminated
  • displayed and readable outside the premises
  • not obscured by shutters
  • displayed for the whole 28 days

Advertising in a newspaper

You must also send a copy of the notice to a local newspaper. Do this within 10 working days of submitting the application.
