Donating items

Donating your records means you are giving them to us permanently. If you do not want to donate it, you can lend your item to us instead (this is called a ‘deposit’).

If you donate an item, an archivist will assess it to decide if it fits our collection, or if it would be better placed somewhere else.

When certain stories are absent from our archives, the collective memory is incomplete. We want to make sure that all voices and stories are available for the future.

If you offer records, you’ll need to tell us:

  • what they are
  • how much there is
  • who created them and why
  • when they were created or the dates they cover
  • background information about their creator

You must decide on any restrictions you want to place on access to your records, instructions for items we may not want to keep, and any permissions about their loan and copyright.

We’ll need your contact details to maintain legal custody of the records.

Let us know if they change. We’ll handle your personal details confidentially and securely.
