Construction noise
Construction and demolition work that produces noise that's audible beyond the boundary of the site can only be carried out at specific times.
These hours are only enforceable when given as part of the conditions of a notice served under the Control of Pollution Act.
This includes all work by electricity, gas, and water companies and council departments, excluding emergency works.
It does not include DIY if it's carried out at reasonable times.
Times not allowed
You cannot carry out noisy construction and demolition works outside the following times without permission, if a notice under the Control of Pollution Act has been served on the site:
- Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
- Saturday 9am to 2pm
- Sunday and bank holidays, all day
Report nuisance construction work to us if it disturbs you outside of these hours.
If you need to carry out noisy work outside normal hours you can apply for section 61 consent.
