Children's pensions

A child's pension may be paid for the benefit of any eligible children of a pensioner who dies. An eligible child is under age 17. If over 17, they must be a full-time student or permanently incapacitated to be eligible. As well as legitimate children, adopted, illegitimate and step-children are also covered. The amounts of pension payable in respect of eligible children vary according to circumstances.

This does not apply to children of a pensioner who, in 1974, opted to retain Local Act 'OLD' Benefits. It also does not apply to children of post-retirement marriages.
