There are 5 major parks and more than 100 smaller public spaces suitable for events.

You must apply for permission to hold an event in any of Southwark’s parks or open spaces.

Parks suitable for large and major events

Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park

This park includes the impressive backdrop of the Imperial War Museum. It hosts a number of events each year including Friends of Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park events and London South Bank University graduation ceremonies. Find out more about Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park

Southwark Park

A large park with several distinct event areas. It hosts regular events each year including Bermondsey Carnival and London Bubble's touring theatre shows. Find out more about Southwark Park.

Burgess Park

Southwark's largest park, covering 56 hectares from Camberwell and Walworth in the west to Peckham and the Old Kent Road in the east. The park had a £8 million transformation in 2012. Find out more about Burgess Park

Dulwich Park

A big and beautiful park, refurbished with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, in the south of Southwark. It hosts annual events including Dulwich Fair, Barnardo's Big Toddle and Screen on the Green. Find out more about Dulwich Park

Peckham Rye Common

A large, open space that plays host to a number of regular events each year including Peckham Rye Fete, Zippos Circus and free film festivals. Find out more about Peckham Rye Common

Other popular outdoor spaces

Camberwell Green

The green lies at a busy crossroads in the centre of Camberwell. A small area of common land, it was once a traditional village green on which, for several centuries, an annual fair was held. Today, Camberwell Green is home to a number of annual events including Camberwell Arts Festival.

Calton Avenue Area

Pedestrianised section of the closed section of Calton Avenue, at the junctions of Court Lane and Dulwich Village.

Goose Green

Once common land, this site was preserved as a public open space by the Camberwell Vestry. The Green is well used as a venue for local community events including Dulwich Festival Fair and Goose Green School Summer Fair.

Lucas Gardens

A small Victorian Park providing a pleasant retreat, opposite Southwark Town Hall. Ideal for events, it has previously hosted The Elephant and the Nun, theatrical performances and Refugee Arts Week celebrations.

Peckham Square

A large civic space that sits between Peckham library, Peckham Hill Street, Rye Lane and Peckham Pulse healthy living centre. The square regularly host markets and a variety of road-show style events.
