What you can do
Fire doors make sure a fire does not spread after residents have escaped. Make sure you report any fire safety problems, like a broken fire door, to the repairs team on 0800 952 4444.
Most fires start in the home and most fires are preventable.
The London Fire Brigade can visit your home to offer free fire safety advice and help you plan a fire escape route.
How to book a home fire safety visit.
Faulty electrical items can be a fire hazard to your home.
Check the list of electrical products that have been recalled because they are not safe.
If you live in a council property, we provide smoke alarms. Never tamper or disconnect them.
If you own your own home, fit a smoke alarm with a British Standard kitemark and test it once a month. You must also change the battery every year.
If you do not have a smoke detector, the London Fire Brigade will fit a free smoke detector for you and give you home fire safety advice. Call them on 0800 028 4428.
