On-street parking bays

Find out about parking bays in Southwark.

Parking bays have white markings on the road. Each bay sign states who can park and the hours of enforcement. If no times are stated, the bay operates at all times.

You can apply for a suspension of a parking bay to allow long-term parking, or for it to be used for another purpose like filming or building work. 

Parking bays are often located in controlled parking zones (CPZs).

Types of parking bay

Permit bays

Only permit holders can use permit bays.

Shared-use bays

Shared-use bays can be used by residents and also those who PaybyPhone.

PayByPhone bays

Only PaybyPhone users can park in PaybyPhone bays. 

Disabled bays

Blue Badge holders can park without charge all day in these bays. The Blue Badge must be displayed at all times. These bays operate for 24 hours every day unless signed otherwise. Find out more about Blue Badges and disabled parking.

Car club bays

Car clubs let you hire a vehicle for a short time.

Motorcycle bays

Motorcycle bays are reserved solely for motorcycles. Parking is free.

Parking bay charges

Charges apply for parking in paid bays during controlled hours.

Controlled Parking Zones C1, C2, D, F, G and GR

  • PayByPhone or PayPoint (cash): £7.80 an hour
  • With diesel surcharge: £12.10 an hour

All other controlled parking zones

  • PayByPhone or PayPoint (cash): £5.10 an hour
  • With diesel surcharge: £8.30 an hour

You can pay parking bay charges using PayByPhone either by their app, online, at a Paypoint shop or over the phone using a credit or debit card. Always quote your location reference number.
