Bankside Urban Forest
The Urban Forest is a network of green connections between the developments in Bankside and open spaces across Southwark. It stretches from the riverside to the Elephant and Castle, and between Blackfriars Road and Borough High Street. We worked with Better Bankside and Tate on the concept.
Example Urban Forest projects include:
- widening Flat Iron Square
- improvements and landscaping along Redcross Way
- transformation of the Great Suffolk Street arches
The plan and projects were prepared by a design team led by Witherford Watson Mann architects. It was overseen by a group of local stakeholders, including:
- Southwark Council
- Better Bankside
- Tate Modern
- Transport for London
- Cross River Partnership
- Land Securities
- GC Bankside LLP
- the Architecture Foundation
