Elephant and Castle

Lendlease began construction of Elephant Park in 2014. When it's complete it will include:

• around 3,000 new homes
• a major new central London park 
• around 50 new shops
• restaurants and cafes

Lendlease is taking part in the Clinton Climate Positive Development Programme. Actions for this project include: 

• a heat and power plant to deliver net zero-carbon heating and hot water to all the new homes
• retaining over 100 mature trees on site and planting hundreds of new ones.

A public consultation helped to name the proposed new streets and buildings. One of the first was O’Callaghan Way, named after Private Lee O’Callaghan. Lee, who had lived on the Heygate estate, lost his life on active service during the 2004 Iraq War. Many of the new names commemorate people from the area or recall historic street names.
