Elephant and Castle

The heritage centre and library building are prominently located on Walworth Road. They add to the streetscape of shops and restaurants and help make Walworth a great place to visit.

The centre provides essential library services, including: 

• books for loan
• community meeting spaces
• children’s story and rhyme sessions 
• computer services
• study space

It also includes heritage and cultural displays, showcasing some of the Cuming Collection.

The community helped to inform our designs for this centre. Your passionate and enthusiastic responses told us that libraries and museums: 

• are at the heart of our communities
• help our growth and learning throughout our lives
• are places everyone should feel welcome
• should provide a wide range of information, learning, activities and events

In response, we've tried to create a great place to gather, focus and enjoy.
