In 2015 we commissioned AECOM to carry out an equalities analysis. This helped us understand how redeveloping Elephant and Castle shopping centre would impact the community. They surveyed 86 businesses and 502 customers.
The report highlighted that older people may suffer from a loss of social inclusion due to the loss of the bingo hall. We asked AECOM to carry out more analysis on its users.
We agreed a package of measures to support relocation and lessen the impact of the shopping centre closure.
Analysis was also carried out on the impact of the loss of the bowling alley. No specific issues were identified which would have an impact on our public sector equalities duty.
We commissioned an update on the analysis in 2019.
