Shopping centre equalities analysis
In 2015 we commissioned AECOM to carry out an equalities analysis. This helped us understand how redeveloping Elephant and Castle shopping centre would impact the community. They surveyed 86 businesses and 502 customers.
The report highlighted that the loss of the bingo hall may cause older people to lose social inclusion. We asked AECOM to carry out more analysis on its users.
We agreed a package of measures to support relocation and lessen the impact of the shopping centre closure.
An analysis was also carried out on the impact of the loss of the bowling alley. No specific issues were identified that would impact our public sector equalities duty.
We commissioned an update on the analysis in 2019.
