Supplementary planning documents

We require our Design and access statements SPD (PDF, 909KB) for some planning and conservation area applications. They are a legal requirement.

They ensure important information is addressed before a planning application is submitted. They cover the design process and how certain design issues are addressed.

These statements can include:

• safety
• security
• accessibility
• the relationship between buildings and their surroundings  

The SPD guides developers and the wider community. It explains how to prepare design and access statements for proposed developments in Southwark.
