Know what domestic violence is and what signs to spot on the Refuge website.

If you're in danger right now, call the police on 999.

If you're calling using a mobile and it's unsafe to speak, use the silent solution.

If you are facing domestic or sexual abuse, contact Southwark Domestic Abuse Service (SDAS) delivered by Refuge:

Refuge is the largest specialist domestic abuse organisation in the UK. It delivers domestic and sexual violence services to those living in Southwark. Call Refuge if you are experiencing gender-based violence, including:

  • domestic violence and abuse
  • rape and sexual violence
  • prostitution
  • trafficking for sexual exploitation
  • stalking and harassment
  • female genital mutilation (FGM)
  • forced marriage
  • so-called ‘honour’-based abuse

Refuge can help by providing:

  • Independent Gender-Based Violence Advocates (IGVAs) provide information, advice, and intensive advocacy if you're a survivor of gender-based violence or abuse
  • access to the Sanctuary Scheme, which installs safety measures into your home
  • the perpetrators service, offering perpetrators the opportunity to change through 1 to 1 sessions
  • a survivor group work programme, a 12-week group that supports women in regaining ownership of their lives
  • 16-week 1 to 1 counselling for survivors of domestic or sexual abuse
  • children’s therapists providing 12-week 1 to 1 play and arts-based interventions

If it becomes too dangerous to remain in your home, you have options, such as entering a refuge.

If you're a Southwark council tenant, call your resident service officer. We may be able to help you find accommodation in or outside the borough. Call 020 7525 5950 for more advice Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
