Disconnecting from the heat network
We do not usually allow homeowners to disconnect from the communal heating system.
Heat network systems are complicated. To run smoothly they need the right conditions.
If a homeowner disconnects, it can cause:
-
an imbalance of pressure
-
breakdowns
-
additional maintenance
It can also stop us from lowering our carbon emissions across Southwark.
If you do disconnect
If we do give you permission to disconnect we'll spread the disconnection cost across other homeowners and tenants.
You’ll need to pay:
- all of the direct costs of material and labour
- all of the indirect costs otherwise recoverable by the council if your property was connected to the communal heating system
- legal fees – you’ll need to instruct your own solicitor
- an admin fee
If you want to disconnect or have any questions email us at hsg.conveyancing@southwark.gov.uk
We’ll give you a breakdown of the costs.
